NITLE's participating institutions may request to host Workshops To Go on their own campuses or other locations judged by the institution and NITLE as suitable for supporting workshop delivery. Institutions that host workshops on campus are able to augment local professional development opportunities, increasing institutional participation and impact while eliminating the associated costs of travel and lodging. Consortial organizations can use Workshops To Go to provide professional development opportunities for their member institutions and/or their own staffs, strengthening consortial initiatives as well as inter-institutional collaboration more generally.
To host a workshop, please work with your campus liaison to send a request to Rebecca Davis. The minimum time between request and delivery is fourteen weeks. Two hosting options are available.
The Network Option
- Hosting costs $3500 per day of instruction (or 35 advance-purchased program units), with 10 seats reserved for participants from within the NITLE Network designated by the host institution.
- For intensively hands-on workshops, the host provides a staff member to assist participants and support the workshop leader. In addition to learning more about the workshop topic, the staff member gains valuable hands-on experience with user support and instruction. (Provision of staff member required; staff member not counted against 10 reserved seats. Hands-on workshops are so indicated in our Workshop To Go catalog.)
- NITLE will recruit additional workshop participants from other institutions participating in the NITLE Network, allowing the host institution to benefit from the Network's collaborative potential. The host receives a workshop with a greater diversity of participants and a refreshed perspective for "home" participants.
- If the workshop is not full by its registration deadline, the host institution may register additional participants (above 10) on a first-come, first-served at no additional charge.
- The host may also register additional participants (above 10) via NITLE's first-come, first-served registration process anytime after the workshop is announced to the community and before the registration deadline, using program units it has purchased from NITLE. (Earlier registration greatly increases the likelihood of participation for additional participants.)
The Institutional Option
- Hosting costs $6000 per day of instruction (or 60 advance-purchased program units), with all seats reserved for participants from within the NITLE Network designated by the host institution. The host can therefore provide an opportunity for professional development focused exclusively on institutional needs and interests and with greater local impact (via higher levels of local participation).
- For intensively hands-on workshops, the host provides a staff member to assist participants and support the workshop leader. In addition to learning more about the workshop topic, the staff member gains valuable hands-on experience with user support and instruction. (Provision of staff member required; staff member not counted against the participation cap. Hands-on workshops are so indicated in our Workshop To Go catalog.)
Additional information about Workshops To Go
Hosting a workshop
- NITLE works closely with the host institution to ensure that each workshop fits the needs and interests of its participants and the host institution's infrastructure.
- We encourage requests for two or more workshops on adjacent dates in the same location; however, requests for single workshops are also welcome.
- Half day workshops (those taking place from 9:00am to 12:00pm) may only be requested in conjunction with a full day workshop.
- Participating institutions are encouraged to work collaboratively with neighboring institutions that also participate with NITLE to bring a workshop or series of workshops to the area. In these situations, a lead campus should initiate the request for a workshop and serves as NITLE's point of contact.
- Consortial organizations hosting workshops may recruit participants from across their membership, regardless of the members' participation status with NITLE.

- To assure quality, NITLE caps Workshops To Go at 18 - 40 participants, depending on the workshop's topic; see catalog for details.
Pilot topics
- Certain topics listed in our Workshops To Go catalog are in their pilot phase. These pilot topics may be requested per our usual process. NITLE works closely with institutions hosting workshops in their pilot phase to ensure their quality as well as their value to the host and the community at large. Before a pilot topic is added to the catalog as a regular offering, NITLE evaluates pilot instances of the workshop against our quality standards. If the workshop meets standards and proves useful to pilot participants, the topic is integrated in to the catalog as a regularly available option.
Publicity
- Once a hosting agreement is established, scheduled workshops are posted to our calendar of events and publicized across the NITLE community via regular updates to NITLE's institutional liaisons. Only "Network Option" workshops are opened to the community for first-come, first-served registration.
