Manakin is the new interface toolkit included with the 1.5 release of DSpace. Manakin offers considerable power to customize the display of DSpace and even to alter functionality. This fellowship gives the NITLE Fellow an opportunity to play a leading role in helping NITLE's DSpace community make use of this exciting new technology. Specifically, this individual would work with NITLE staff to communicate with the community, design curricula, prepare outreach materials, and instruct other NITLE participants in how to make use of this new set of DSpace tools.
The Fellow will deliver training to the community via either face-to-face workshops or online environments. The Fellow would also help evaluate other interface customization options (for example, using Cascading Style Sheets) and would also instruct in those areas. This person would also consider and help provide information tailored for those campuses participating in the NITLE DSpace Pilot Service.
Applicants are expected to have the technical background necessary for proficiency in Manakin, including some XSL experience, and familiarity with Apache Cocoon, XML, and CSS. The Fellow would also need to be familiar with the DSpace software, including the customization options that are available using the default interfaces. (Please note that experience with server or application administration is NOT expected.) Some experience in education and training is also required. NITLE will also provide additional training.
