Michael develops and maintains relationships between NITLE and its participating institutions, with a special focus on those located in the Western U.S. He supports community-building between participating institutions and organizations and works closely with their designated institutional liaisons, communicating with them regularly via e-mail, phone, meetings, workshops, and campus visits. He also coordinates the use of NITLE's Instructional Innovations Fund, including facilitating project publicity and reporting for award recipients.
NITLE's Participant Relations Coordinator, Michael received a B.A. in History and a Masters in Library Science from San Jose State University. After receiving his MLS in the early 1990s, Michael created a program to teach the use of Internet resources to librarians in California. In the mid 1990s he worked as Senior Project Manager for a web development firm in Seattle. Most recently, Michael worked as Director for Instructional Technology at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. In 2002, Michael became a Frye Leadership Institute fellow.
Michael works from his home in Tacoma, Washington. In off hours he works on his house, a Craftsman Bungalow built in 1918, and builds wooden boats (canoes, kayaks, and skiffs) as well as custom furniture and cabinets. You can see some photos of this work at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mnanfito/.
