News and announcements - November 30, 2006 | NITLE bids fond farewell to Amy McGill

Amy McGill, NITLE's Director of Project Support, will leave NITLE at the end of 2006 to take the position of Associate Vice President for Planning and Special Projects at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (Monterey, CA). The Monterey Institute is an affiliate of Middlebury College.

"Leaving will be bittersweet because my work at NITLE and with the faculty and staff at our participating colleges has given me so many wonderful experiences," said McGill. "My respect for and interest in the work NITLE does is undiminished. At the same time, the position at Monterey presents new challenges for me. I feel that this is an opportunity to broaden my skills and make a difference to an institution that has great potential to contribute to the role that higher education can play in creating a more peaceful world."

As Director of Project Support, McGill has worked to promote inter-institutional collaboration among NITLE's participating colleges, identifying and supporting projects that focus on making innovative, effective use of digital technologies to promote excellent teaching on and across campuses. Projects that she has shepherded include the building of online resources and communities of practice for faculty, technologists, and librarians in Arab, Islamic, and Middle Eastern Studies and Geographic Information Systems; creation of support structures for intercampus team teaching; and a variety of projects and professional development opportunities that focus on pedagogically effective uses of technology for teaching and learning languages. In these and many other ways McGill led NITLE in building on the legacy that she and Clara Yu created at the Center for Educational Technology.

"We will greatly miss Amy's intellectual rigor, good sense, and warm collegiality, yet we are excited to see her moving into a position that so well fits her considerable talents,” said Jo Ellen Parker, Executive Director of NITLE. “I know I speak for all of us in thanking Amy for her many contributions to NITLE and wishing her great success at Monterey."

McGill and Nancy Millichap, NITLE's Director of Programs, will work together to ensure a seamless transition for NITLE participants. Questions about projects supported by McGill may be directed to her at amy.mcgill@nitle.org until December 31, 2006, and to Nancy Millichap at nancy.millichap@nitle.org thereafter.
