Instructional Technologist, NITLE

Associate Director, NITLE Institute
Primary Activity
Plan, develop, and deliver faculty and staff development workshops on a range of technologies used for pedagogical purposes in higher education.
Primary Responsibilities
- In collaboration with other members of the NITLE staff, develop and implement professional development programs for faculty and staff at NITLE participating institutions with a special focus on multimedia tools, social software, podcasting, digital images, mapping, data visualization, videography and video editing, and web development. Expertise in all these areas is not required: willingness to learn in each of them is.
- Serve as an instructor for approximately 30 workshops or other professional development programs annually delivered in multiple locations, as well as frequent shorter training sessions online.
- up to 25% travel for workshop delivery and program support.
- Contribute to the development of online peer communities.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education
Bachelor's degree in any field required; graduate work in instructional design, educational technology, information technology and services, or related fields preferred.
Experience/Knowledge
- Excellent teaching, writing, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of a range of technologies and the ability to explain them clearly to users at various levels of expertise.
- Expert capabilities in a variety of applications (see list of currently offered NITLE workshops at http://www.nitle.org/index.php/nitle/opportunities/wtg for examples of specific technologies of interest.)
- Ability to collaborate effectively with remote colleagues and program participants, using a variety of communication and collaboration systems, including e-mail, interactive videoconferencing, instant messaging, wikis, and similar tools.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot technical problems effectively in unfamiliar settings.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in building relationships with both users and colleagues; strong service orientation and high value on collegiality and teamwork.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel.
- Familiarity with the distinctive features and mission of undergraduate educational institutions, including the ability to relate to faculty and academic support staff in a variety of disciplines and fields, and understanding of how technology can enhance and support this mission.
